AIPS chooses Free Event for the realisation of the first hybrid edition of the Oscars of sports journalism. Sport, like many other sectors, has faced a very tough year, with events suspended or postponed – one of all, the Olympics – and great difficulties for all operators in the sector. It is therefore a message of great hope that comes from the Sport Media Awards, organised in Vigevano by Free Event for AIPS, an international association based in Lausanne that brings together sports journalists from around the world.
A hybrid event with worldwide digital distribution (streamed on the association’s website on Youtube and live TV on the Arab network Alkass, leader of sports communication in Qatar) organised within the Stables of the Castello Sforzesco in Vigevano. A magnificent place, testimony of a historical period, the Renaissance, which in the words of the President Gianni Merlo becomes a hope for the future: a light at the bottom of the tunnel for the world of sport and beyond.
Within the Stables, built on a project by Leonardo da Vinci, Free Event has set up a set consisting of 5 transparent LED screens and a design of great atmosphere lights that has enhanced the scenic beauty of the space. To present the Oscars of sports journalism, for the first time in hybrid version, the Italian journalist Valentina Clemente of Skytg24.
The ceremony, presented in English and translated live into five languages, has combined history and digital innovation, giving the opportunity to jurors and finalists from all over the world – the countries represented were 155 – to intervene during the show thanks to the streaming connection from private virtual rooms. For AIPS, Free Event has managed the creative direction and executive production of the show: art direction, content, event and camera direction, technique and video production, including a footage dedicated to the city of Vigevano. The agency, which at BEA 2020 won the publisher’s award for digital transformation, thus confirms its growth path in the creation of digital and hybrid events, opening up once again to a major international audience.
